Viganj, because of its afternoon breeze the Maestral, (for which it got its name) is ideal for all types of sailing. Every year one of the regattas of the open Croatian championships is held here. In the year 1989 Viganj was host to the world championships and in the year 1990 it was host to the European championship in windsurfing. According to many experienced surfers Viganj is the best place in Croatia and surrounding area for surfing and kiting.

Viganj has a surfing and diving school, many café bars and restaurants, shops and exchange offices. Lovers of soccer and beach volley ball also have their place in Viganj, while for tennis and table tennis guests must go to Orebic.

Also located near Viganj is the mountain excursion point Sveti Ilija which is also the summit of Pelješac at 961 m. It is ideal for hiking, extreme cycling and paragliding.
